Los Angeles is huge – as anyone who lives here knows – with the city stretching as far north as the Angeles National Forest, west to Pacific Ocean, south of Long Beach and east (well, actually, it doesn’t extend that far east). However, the county goes quite far inland, comprising over 4,700 square miles of Southern California, and that’s plenty of room for a brewery.
For years LA has been viewed as a second-rate beer option compared to San Diego’s overwhelming number of breweries, but that’s far from it now. According to Los Angeles Brewers Guild, 93 breweries and 101 designated destinations produce more than 5,000 unique beers, six of which have won medals at GABF. While it’s not quite as much as San Diego yet, there’s plenty to choose from, leaving craft beer drinkers here with one less thing to defend (and don’t get us started on the whole “LA vs. New York City” thing. ).

To be fair, you’re going to need a car to explore the breweries we’ve featured above, and with that vehicle a very nice designated driver who you can hand over a kombucha to satisfy him – because we didn’t limit ourselves to the city of Los Angeles proper with this list. In our opinion, these are the best breweries in the Woodland Hills area, so buckle up and pack enough layers to get you out of the beach on those chilly California nights.
You have something to drink and explore.
