Casino company marks start of work on new Vegas-area resort


LAS VEGAS (AP) — A local casino company along with several other Las Vegas-area properties kicked off a $750 million project Friday to build a 200-room hotel tower and casino in a growing residential and commercial district in the southwest of the city.

Red Rock Resorts employees and leaders, including Company President and CEO Frank Fertitta III, Vice President Lorenzo Fertitta and incoming Company President Scott Kreeger, held a ceremony at the site near 215 Beltway where the Durango Casino & Resort is scheduled to open in late 2023.

Plans call for a 216-foot-tall hotel, casino, pool with event lawn, restaurants and bars, racing and sports betting area, meeting and convention space, parking, and pay stations. charging for electric vehicles.


A second phase would add a second tower, more hotel rooms, theater entertainment space, and an expanded casino.

Station Casinos has owned the 71-acre (29-hectare) undeveloped property since 2000.

The company owns nine major hotel-casinos and 10 bars, restaurants and sports betting establishments. Its aging Fiesta Henderson, Texas Station in Las Vegas and Fiesta Rancho in North Las Vegas closed during the coronavirus pandemic and have not reopened.
