Connecticut State Police identify 2 people killed in oncoming head-on crash – Hartford Courant


Connecticut State Police on Monday identified two people who were killed in an oncoming traffic accident on Highway 8 in Bridgeport on Sunday.

Monica Wilson, 41, of Westport, was killed when the car she was driving southbound on Route 8 near Exit 3 just after 8.30pm on Sunday was hit head-on by a car traveling in the wrong direction , heading north from the south side. , State Police said.

After the initial crash, a chain collision occurred between the car traveling the wrong way and two other southbound vehicles, state police said. A passenger in one of the other southbound vehicles, Ananias Castillo-lcabalzeta, 46, of Bridgeport, was pronounced dead at the scene, state police said.

Two children in the car Wilson was driving were also injured, as were the drivers of the other three cars involved in the collisions, state police said. The injuries sustained by the oncoming driver are life-threatening and he was in critical condition, state police said.

The Connecticut State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Team responded to the scene to assist G Troop in the investigation. The collision remains under investigation. Route 8 South was closed in the area for about 5 hours Sunday, state police said.
