Connecticut Valley North All-Stars Head To Eastern Regionals

BRADFORD, Vermont (WCAX) – It’s a big weekend for youth baseball in Vermont. The small leagues compete for a state championship while the young softball players aim for an even bigger prize.

It’s departure time for the Connecticut Valley North stars. The women’s softball team, which won the 12U State Champions, will travel to Bristol, Connecticut, to represent Vermont in the Eastern Regionals this weekend.

The team is made up of players from a handful of towns in the Upper Valley. Coach Adam Osgood gave the start on Friday. “Go ahead, have fun. Represent the state of Vermont – the Upper Valley in particular – but go ahead and represent, ”said Osgood, who has coached some of these girls since t-ball. His daughter, Brooke, plays on first base.

“Go play with kids you’ve never played before from different cities and you can be a single team,” Brooke said.

You will hear a lot of positive talk about this area. After all, there was no regional tournament last year due to the pandemic and the team are just happy to be on the pitch. “We are all very close. We are always there when a teammate falls to the ground. We’re always here to encourage and support them, ”said Kaylee Hamlett of Groton.

And they learn more than just how to play, they learn to play like champions. “If we don’t win and we’ve played our best, then you can’t ask for more. Because obviously you can’t win if you don’t play as hard as you can. And if you do, then well, that’s okay, ”said Addison Murray of East Ryegate.

COVID has had a big impact on the younger generation, with normal routines turned upside down last season. The tournament is a sign that things are back to normal for a group of girls who love the game.

Reporter Adam Sullivan: Obviously you love sports, why?

Braylee Phelps / Topsham-Corinth: Because it’s fun hanging out with friends and also because I’m good at some of them.

In fact, these girls are some of the best. “This is their year to shine and it should be a good time there,” Osgood said.

If successful at Bristol, they will travel to North Carolina to try to win a national championship.
