CT firefighter suspended as police investigate video of group of sexual predators

WINDSOR – A local firefighter has been suspended pending the outcome of a police investigation into a video posted to social media by a self-proclaimed predator hunting group this week, officials confirmed.

A City of Windsor official confirmed on Thursday that the person involved was Chris Duffy and that he was a member of the Windsor Volunteer Fire Department. Duffy could not be reached immediately for comment on Thursday.

Duffy was suspended when the department was alerted the video, posted by a group called EastCoast Catchem on its Facebook page early Sunday morning, according to Paul Goldberg, the city’s fire administrator and director of emergency management.

East Hartford Police Lt. Joshua Litwin said Thursday that department detectives were investigating a video the group took at a Mobil gas station. Litwin said the video was reported to them on Wednesday.

“We are not confirming the identity of anyone in this video at this time,” he said.

Video shows a man in the driver’s seat of a car at the East Hartford gas station. One of the group members asks the driver to get out of the car to talk, and the man responds by telling the person to get inside the car.

Another team member walks up and says, “Hey, buddy, you’re on EastCoast,” before the driver closes his car window and quickly exits the gas station.

EastCoast Catchem said the May 23 meeting took place after messages were exchanged about sexual preferences with the man and a member of the group posing as a 15-year-old.

Duffy was also removed from his post as president of Leadership Greater Hartford.

The board of directors of the local community organization fired Duffy on Tuesday “based on information that came to our attention earlier this week,” Leadership Greater Hartford said in a statement.

“We do not tolerate this type of behavior and it was clear that Mr. Duffy could no longer be part of our organization,” the statement said. “We have been in contact with local law enforcement and offered our full support and cooperation.”

Duffy was announced as the organization’s president and CEO last June. This ad has since been deleted on the Leadership Greater Hartford website.

A LinkedIn page for Duffy was taken down Thursday afternoon.

Litwin said on Thursday that East Hartford Police were also investigating another video recorded by EastCoast earlier in May. The video was taken in a Stop & Shop, but Litwin said police “are also not confirming the identity of the people seen in this video at this time.”

Craig Stevenson resigned earlier this month as head of the Democratic City of East Hartford committee after local officials confirmed he was seen on a video of EastCoast Catchem at Stop & Shop.
