Florida man tries to hide in storm sewer after trying to kidnap children

An Orange County man is accused of attempting to kidnap two children and then attempting to escape into a storm sewer.

MPs said on September 17, victims were walking near the Badcock furniture store on North Pine Hills Road when they noticed the suspect, Kelijah Pompey, doing push-ups in the parking lot.

Pompey reportedly told the children he wanted to play football with them. MPs say he then grabbed two of the children by the wrists and led them across the street towards an apartment complex. It was then that one of the children started screaming.

Pompey reportedly picked up one of the victims and started carrying her until he dropped her when confronted by two women.

Several witnesses saw what was happening and physically prevented Pompey from taking the children away, according to an arrest affidavit.

Investigators say Pompey tried to escape. He was eventually caught trying to escape into a storm sewer.

MPs say Pompey appeared to be under the influence of narcotics.
