Police investigate fatal Litchfield shooting – NBC Connecticut

Connecticut State Police are investigating a fatal shooting in the parking lot of a law firm in Litchfield.

Authorities said a man was shot shortly before 5 p.m. on West Street, also known as Route 202. When officers arrived at the scene, they found a man with gunshot wounds. He was later pronounced dead, police said.

One of those involved in the shooting is associated with the neighboring law firm, but officials did not say whether it was the alleged shooter or the victim.

Police said they identified the suspected shooter. They say the person is cooperating with law enforcement but is not under arrest at the moment.

Authorities believe the two people involved in the shooting knew each other, but their exact relationship is unknown at this time.

The alleged shooter is a legal and licensed gun carrier, police say.

Detectives are working to determine a motive. They said the incident appears to be isolated and that there is no threat to the public at the moment.

The identity of the deceased man is withheld pending notification of the next of kin.

Officials said this was a homicide investigation and detectives will remain at the scene for several more hours as they conduct their investigation.
