Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven hosted the undergraduate start Friday at Total Mortgage Arena in Bridgeport, with more than 1,300 graduates graduating, the university said.

“Our students represent the rich and diverse opportunities Southern provides for growth, opportunity and service to others,” said SCSU President Joe Bertolino. “They come to Southern not just for an education, but for something bigger – they want to make a difference.”

Friday’s ceremony marked three years since an in-person school opening ceremony, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“Despite the most stressful of circumstances, our Class of 2022 persevered in their studies and succeeded,” Bertolino said.
